Photo School

Tue Oct 10, 2006, 7:24 PM
I started the Photography AAS program at PJC this term.. finally. It's refreshing to be doing something creative again. I'm learning so many things that would've taken a long, long time to learn on my own. Teachers also tend to push you into trying new things and working a little harder than you otherwise would. Things are looking up!

I'll put some of the good stuff up on here from time to time.

Also, I shot my first wedding a couple months ago. I thought it appropriate to post the better shots on Flickr. Check 'em out! [link]

Thats awesome... I have no idea where PJC is though? I just thought I'd share that I'm doing Graphic Design / Photography at DBCC... Its also an AS degree I believe. I just started this past summer, already I've learned a lot. Congrats to you. :-)

PJC is Pensacola Junior College. Yeah, it's a junior college, but it supposedly has one of the best photo programs in Florida. It's really just easier to be taught by enthusiastic and experienced teachers in these fields than it is to teach yourself. It can be done without going to school, but I thought this would be the best route for me. Where is DBCC?
:iconsushique:
Definitely! DBCC is in Daytona Beach... Its photo program is supposed to be one of the top in the nation... Atleast thats the reputation... I haven't taken film photography classes as of yet, just PS CS2 and Illustrator at the moment. Its reasonable cost for the classes too, which is why I decided to break down and just do it. You should look into DBCC, all I've heard is good things. Geographicly, thats probably too far for you to drive though... ;-) Hope things are going well... Oh, I have a flickr account (just the freebie one), I will have to add you as a contact. Have a great night

Yeah, my teacher Mark Francis was saying that Daytona had the other good school in FL-- bigger though, more facilities. It's something to think about I guess. Do they have a photo BA program?
:iconsushique:
No, unfortunately their BA program (which they just started) is only for Business Management... Bummer. They are on track w/ UCF for your BA though... I would really hate to live in the Orlando area again, too much traffic/people/congestion/accidents/etc,etc. They have satellite campuses, but I don't know if you can complete your full BA at the Satellite ones. I wish school wasnt so expensive. I also wish I didn't have to work full time while juggling classes... I guess a little pressure is good for the soul

Yeah, I am always happy to see PJC students on Dev. You will learn a lot here, and it is the best photo school in Florida hands down. I started 5 1/2 yrs ago there. Took me 3yrs through the program, but I add some general ed classes on the end for my BA program. Because the AAS doesn't have as many general ed class as the AA. Watch out of that when going to the BA level cause it can cause huge problems.

But honestly these are some of the best teachers for photo. (Warren is my favorite) You will not get this much attention at B.A. levels so enjoy it while you can. I can't stress this enough whatever Francis says to you don't go to FAMU for it BA! We went and it way more hassle and frustration than it worth.

Remember shoot lots and lots of photos. They get twitchy when you show up with 1 roll of film. Good luck, and I look forward to seeing your work.
