New Camera

Fri Jul 20, 2007, 10:27 AM
Well, it's new to me. The mail just delivered my new Nikon F4S, and I'm really stoked. After doing an insane amount of research, I decided it was probably one of the better 35mm cameras ever made. The best thing about it to me is that it can use nearly any Nikon lens ever made, manual or AF. The old knob-style controls are kick-ass and it's built like a tank!

Hopefully I can take it out for a test run this weekend.

I envy you, for your film use. I wish I could devote the time and money for film and processing. I love the way film comes out over digital.

You live in Pensacola right? Do you have your stuff in any gallery?

Ill have a few pieces in the PJC Aug 3-9th Paris & Spain show. If ya have the time, stop by, there should be a nice collection of Photos. I can't wait to see everyone else's photographs.

Yeah, I think I will always use film for as long as they make it. I'm trying to get a Nikon D80 to make it easier and lest costly for paid jobs. I've shot a few weddings recently, and I'd like to ditch the film and processing costs and make more profit. But I'm sure I'll always use both.

I do live in P'cola. I work at Barnie's Coffee in Cordova. I'll definitely come check out the show at PJC. I'm actually a Photo student there, but I took the summer off so I haven't kept up with what's going on. What's the Paris & Spain show about?

Yeah, I remember you from Barnies. I used to work at GameStop, came in there a lot. I too took time off. Had to take the Spring off, and then accidentally the summer too. Missed registration, couldn't get the classes I wanted. Getting back in there this fall, although no real photo class - but they are Photo AAS classes.

Mrs. Vanneman took a group of students and friends to Paris last year, and again this year. I guess its a collection of works primarily from the students, but a few teachers pieces will be in there too.

So you're a photo student. I heard about Mrs. Vanneman's trips. Do you get to go? I took a similar trip with a teacher named Charlie Schuler from the humanities dept back in 2002. We went to Italy and Switzerland. I was really thrilled with the history and culture over there. Been trying to go back ever since.

I'm becoming a photography student. I was only taking the photo classes previously as electives, although my past 5 electives have all been Photo degree courses. So this coming semester I'll more or less be an official photo student. :)

I went to both Italy and Switzerland when I was about 10. I don't remember much, I've always wanted to go back to Italy though. Paris was great, but I'd really like to take the money for a trip to Paris and spend it backpacking across Europe for a month or 2.

Mrs. Vanneman and her husband get to go on a lot of trips, I guess she is finally starting to share the experience with these Paris trips. The first trip was just 2 weeks in Paris, the second one she did a week in Paris then a week in southern France.

If I go back, I'll have to schedule some Hostels and train passes. Half our money before went to hotel - which when you are out nearly all day, and come back to shower and sleep, I don't feel the need for the expense. Maybe a day or two here and there in a hotel, the rest in hostels is fine for me.

Maybe next summer - I planned to try to go back in 2 years after that last trip to Paris last year. So I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
